Annie Leibovitz Does "Mad Men"

Don and Betty's Paradise Lost. Sigh.

I live in a world of Robert Pattinsons.
I'd rather live in a world of Jon Hamms.

TiLF: Things I Love Friday

Sleeping in.
And then rolling over and sleeping some more.

Eric Hutchinson.
On piano. On guitar. I think we'd be friends. But you already know this.

Rob Thomas.
With and without Matchbox Twenty. I think I might love his new album. Time will tell.

iTunes gift card.
My family celebrated my birthday on Canada Day. Even though the actual date of my birthday is August 17th. That gives the rest of you plenty of time to figure out how to celebrate me.

(The iTunes card is merely enabling me. So addicted. Next up: Motion City Soundtrack.)

Dark-chocolate-covered coffee beans.
I like to eat my caffeine just as much as I like to drink it.

Writing.
Without direction, deadline or expectation. Sometimes it's nice to just let the brain go nuts.

Natalie Portman in Garden State.

I love this movie. And if I were a boy, I'd want to marry Natalie.

Google.

Paul Rudd.

Rumors of Zac Levi being Gargamel in the 3D Smurfs movie.
I'm so conflicted. And amused.

Doug the piano.
Even though he's almost broken. I guess 20 years is a long life for a much-loved digital piano. He's my therapist.

(A piano is a great gift idea. So if you love me and have a few grand to spare....)

myvintagevogue's photo stream.
I spent way too much time oohing and aahing over photos today. Next time I'm invited to the Oscars, I'm going vintage

Vintage Beauty Rules

I woke up this morning with pale, faded lips. And thought to myself, "Self, if you had a seductive siren-red pout first thing in the morning, your life would be exponentially more fantastic." I guess lipstick should be part of my bedtime routine.

Lovely Hermione

Emma Watson is delightful. As is this photo shoot.

Oh, Deer

Loveliness. A pet deer just seems so Audrey-appropriate, no?

"I want to go to there."

I am so over the rain. And computers. And walls.

God, I'm Lonely

Art at the Steam Whistle Brewery

Sometimes I listen to my iPod on shuffle instead of, A, creating playlists of awesomeness, or, B, making a real decision as to what I feel like hearing. It's a great way to discover never-listened-to tracks on half-loved albums. But sometimes the random order will mess with my mood. I'll be bopping down the street to a fun little rock tune when all of a sudden-- WHAM! --William Fitzsimmons breaks my heart with his soulful lament: "Oh, God, my bed is empty."

I dedicate this photo to him.

A little Willie Fitz sadness for your evening. Divorce ballads are the saddest of them all.

I would like to give that man a hug.

Doors Open Toronto

A perfect Sunday in the city. Lemonade at Campbell House. Beer at Steam Whistle Brewery. Trains. Fort York. Sunshine. New friends.

Aside: I'm officially addicted to walking. I've walked approximately 35 km over the last 3 days. So while I'm looking up local hiking trails, I'm also fantasizing about walking the Camino de Santiago. Yes, I dream of a 30-day 900km pilgrimage in Spain. Doesn't everyone?

Yesterday, after a fascinating tour of the brewery, I gave a stranger my leftover beer tickets:
You're an angel, you know that? An angel. Tell your parents you're an angel.
Well, Mom and Dad, it's been confirmed. As if you had any doubt.

Earth Hour

I should really spend more quality time with candlelight. And learn to play the acoustic guitar.

Colour Me Happy

This is my favorite photo spread of the past year or so. Because I love scarves. And layers. And neutrals. And comfort. And Keri Russell.

And this wedding just makes me happy. Because sometimes I just want to sit in the grass. The fact that she's wearing cowboy boots under that gorgeous gown makes it even more amazing.

Even better, Big Huge Labs now generates colour palettes from your uploaded photos. So the country wedding looks like this:

If the above 15 swatches were the only colours on the planet, I would have no complaints. In fact, I'd probably swap out talking for singing and walking for skipping. Sigh.

Dads Are Cool

Daddy Dearest

Anyone wanna meet my dad? Here he is. He just bought a movie theater. Uh, sort of.

L-O-V-E

This melts my heart. And inspires my inner photographer. Check out a photo shoot a father did with his daughter. This will be hung on the wall of her new big-girl room.

You should read his blog. Really. He's a tattooed pastor with mad skills in the kitchen. And takes a mean photograph. But you already know that.

Tales From Orillia: Part 5 - Nostalgia

This is my final weekend-in-Orillia post. I think.

Kids, be careful what you make in elementary school art class. Your crafty creations may surface in your mother's decor almost two decades later.

My great-grandmother's candy dish. I'm pretty sure I ate most of the jelly beans. And then I went on a jelly-bean run just so I could eat some more.

Welcome to diet-detox week, Nadine.

Nathan was missing from the steady stream of parties this weekend (I call a game of Scrabble in front of the TV a party, so don't get too excited). But his masterpiece reminded us that he was there in construction-paper spirit.

Study hard, little brother. And keep up the art thing. I think you've got a real natural ability.

Tales From Orillia: Part 4 - The Decor

I'm going through a Polaroid phase. Unfortunately, I don't have a Polaroid camera. So I cheat. It's a nice change of pace for the girl who always plays by the rules.

[Insert Poladroid addiction here]

If Only

It's raining. I haven't slept for more than 5 hours a night in almost a week. So I'm not sure if I'm chilled because of the weather or because I'm slowly dying of something.

There's a quiet discontentment. A roughhousing between heart and head as I type here. Maybe it's exhaustion.

Shouldn't I be writing on a beach somewhere? I'm young. I have a passport. I have a laptop. And I'm ridiculously neurotic and responsible and practical. And borderline boring. Someone, take me away. Sigh.

Maybe I just need sleep. After Lost.

I apparently have a thing for typewriters. In photographs, at least.
